Original oil painting on canvas.
Size 22" x 30" (Approx. A1 size).
Ifoga - The ifoga ritual is an act of remorse out of love for the victims. It is the traditional Samoan ritual to help heal divisions and tensions within the community. It is the act of asking for forgiveness, seeking acceptance, peace and reconciliation. The fine mat worn by the guilty party or parties is also seen as a 'cover of life'.
This painting integrates the act of the ifoga ritual and the act of repentance. The word ifo means to bow down. In this piece the woman wears the fine mat and looks up towards heaven in the act of seeking repentance and receiving forgiveness from God.
